Provenance of Blue Transfusion | Fall 2020

Courtney Sievers is a talented artist that has done several abstract/non-objective pieces, still life paintings, and portraits for our family and friends.

In 2017 she created a non-commissioned abstract piece called Transfusion. A Transfusion is a cocktail made up of vodka, ginger ale, grape juice, and lime juice. It is a favorite of golfers across Virginia and beyond. The grape juice gives the drink a purple look, and of course Transfusion the painting had purple as the dominant color. This piece fit perfectly in our house in a tight stairway that led to the bar where interestingly Transfusions were often served.

This gave us an idea for a commissioned piece, that would go in our master bedroom. This was truly the last spot of open wall space in our home, and despite living in this home for 12 years we had not found something that made sense in the space. The commissioned piece would need to pick up on the greys and blues in the room, and also needed to complement, the companion painting Egg Yolks which was predominantly yellow-tan.

Courtney Sievers executed wonderfully with a three-canvas design that fits perfectly in the space and exceeded our expectation for the space. With the low bench in front of it Blue Transfusion looks museum quality, and is the perfect final touch in our master bedroom.
