James River Plein Air

On the last day of summer Rob, Witten and I decided to spend it at the James River. I had scouted a spot to paint earlier in the season and we went there off Riverside Drive.

To get to our spot, we had to cross part of the river. It wasn’t very deep and the current was slow. I did decide it was time to invest in some better Plein air travel gear!

Rob and Witten had a blast riding the rapids while I painted. There were lots of people along the river on the boulders. It was fun seeing all the kayakers passing by too. I began a painting of the bridge crossing the river. Several trains went by too. It was just a perfect day!

Rob took some photos of me painting the beautiful river landscape. Every time I am along the James River I’m so impressed with what a gorgeous place we have right in the city of Richmond!
